FAQs
Do you offer virtual care?
We provide secure, HIPAA-compliant telepsychiatry services exclusively, with no in-person appointments. All patients must be physically located within the State of Michigan at the time of their session. We recognize the demands of busy schedules, limited travel flexibility, and the value of privacy and convenience, and our virtual care model is designed to support accessible and streamlined treatment.
How long are appointments?
Our initial evaluation is generally 90 mins allowing for a thorough diagnostic assessment, review of your history, and collaborative treatment planning. We offer both 30-minute and 60-minute follow-up appointments, with duration tailored to individual needs.
Do you prescribe controlled substances?
Yes, when clinically appropriate and in accordance with all state and federal regulations. Our prescribing decisions are guided by a thorough diagnostic process and ongoing monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness. We do not provide “quick prescriptions” or replacement for primary care services; all controlled medications are prescribed only when there is a clear indication and when they can be safely integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan.
How do I schedule an appointment?
To schedule an appointment, please complete the appointment request form. We will then arrange a brief phone call to discuss your needs, determine whether our practice is a good fit, and review potential next steps.
What if I already have a therapist?
At Cranbrook Psychiatric Group, we believe that close coordination between psychiatrist and therapist is essential to providing optimal care. With your consent, we will communicate and collaborate with your therapist to ensure your treatment remains cohesive, informed, and aligned. For those who do not yet have a therapist, we can recommend excellent clinicians whose styles complement our approach.
Do you take insurance?
We are a cash-pay (self-pay) practice and are not in-network with any insurance providers or Medicare / Medicaid. This model allows us to provide highly personalized attention and care. We can provide a superbill (an itemized invoice) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that reimbursement depends entirely on your insurer’s policies within your specific insurance plan.
What are your payment terms?
Payment is due at the time of service. We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and FSA/HSA cards. As a cash-pay practice, there are no hidden or delayed insurance-related bills.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 48 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will incur a $150 fee. That said, we understand that life can be unexpectedly complicated. In rare and unforeseen circumstances, we may exercise discretion and offer flexibility—but this is not guaranteed and is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Can you treat patients from out of state?
We can see patients who are physically located within the State of Michigan at the time of their appointment— by video. Patients who live outside Michigan may still receive care with us if they are present in the state for work, school, or travel.
What if I need a higher level of care?
If at any point you would benefit from more intensive treatment, we will make the appropriate referral. While we are not affiliated with any specific programs, we can assist you in coordinating that care. We will coordinate the transition to ensure that your care remains continuous and well-supported.
How do you protect my privacy?
We use encrypted, HIPAA-compliant systems for all records, telehealth sessions, and communication. Because we are not contracted with insurance companies, no information is shared with third-party payers unless you request it. This ensures your psychiatric records remain confidential and fully under your control.
Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced fees?
At this time, we do not offer a sliding-scale structure. However, we occasionally review individual circumstances and can refer patients to trusted colleagues who offer lower-fee options if needed.
